Mexican police have seized the town of San Salvador Atenco, after days of conflict with the rioters sparked by the eviction of the florist nearest market. Florist suspected by the local authority trading without a license.

Disputes quickly hijacked by local peasant movement leader, Ignacio del Valle, who had previously led a rebellion in the area. Demonstrators attacked police with machetes and gasoline bombs and blocked the main road into town.

"We support the flower shop and we just want them to sell flowers," said del Valle's son told the Mexican television station "Televisa". "They're trying to get rid of them, so that the support we blocked the road."

Six police officers taken hostage by the rioters had been released now, but the teenager was killed and dozens injured in the riots. About 4,000 federal police and the state is now in the area and dozens of protesters were arrested, including Mr. del Valle.

San Salvador Atenco rebellion has been the scene of violence in several recent years. In 2002, the movement away farmers and elected local councils apply their own rules for more than a year, forcing the government to cancel plans for the construction of the nearest airport.
